November 18-án a magyar, a szlovák a cseh és a szlovén nagykövetség, valamint a főkormányzó hivatalának együttműködésével a főkormányzó közép-európai körútját bevezető kulturális gála került megrendezésre a Rideau Hall-ban, a főkormányzói rezidencián. Michaëlle Jean főkormányzó köszöntötte a parlamenti és kormányzati tisztviselőkből, üzletemberekből és a nemzeti közösségek közismert képviselőiből álló, körülbelül 100 vendéget, kiemelve az úttal kapcsolatos várakozásait. A fogadást megelőző koncerten a négy ország Kanadában élő művészei adtak rövid bemutatót klasszikus és népzenei művekből. Magyarországot a Montreálban élő, magyar származású kanadai operaénekes, Stephen Hegedűs képviselte.
A vendégek négy kisebb kiállítást is megtekinthettek, melyet a négy nagykövetség állított ki a Rideau Hall-ban – Magyarországot a halasi csipke kiállítás képviselte. A nagykövetség emellett minden vendéget megajándékozott egy-egy, a látogatásra készített, magyar és kanadai szimbólumokkal illusztrált Rubik-kockával.

The Embassies of the Republic of Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and the Republic of Slovenia, together with Rideau Hall, have organized a cultural gala, as an introduction of the Governor General’s visit to the four Central European countries. The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean greeted the guests – parliament and government officials, distinguished members of the local ethnic communities – and shared her excitement and expectations about the coming visit. The four countries were represented by local artists with ethnic background, performing classical music and folk music pieces. On behalf of Hungary the Montreal-based Canadian opera singer, Mr. Stephen Hegedűs (finalist of the 2008 Operalia) sang folk-song interpretations by Bartók and Kodály, and one from a Canadian composer.
The guests were invited to see a small set of exhibition by the four Embassies – Hungary was represented by a collection of the finest of the Halas Lace. As a farewell gift, the Embassy distributed Rubik cubes made for this occasion, with illustrations of Hungarian and Canadian symbols.
